Playoffs 2020 Episode 1: The Road to Redemption

Welcome back Listeners… we hope!

The From the Point Podcast returns this week with a play-in round preview show.

In period 1 we will review the Flames training camp and exhibition game versus the Oilers. We’ll give our thoughts on positives, negatives, goaltending, and, of course, where Sam Bennett belongs in the line up.

In period 2 we talk about the other Western conference play-in round along with our predictions. We think you will enjoy the fact that neither of us picked the Canucks to advance.

In period 3 we do the same for the Eastern conference play in round. Nobody on this podcase is selecting the Montreal Canadiens to beat the much better Penguins, but take heart Habs fans, there are analytics out there favoring your squad apparently.

Lastly, in Overtime, we give our predictions for how the seeding will work out following the round robin of the top teams in each conference.

Please enjoy!

Episode 2-18 Wake Me Up When March (April?) Ends

Period 1: Flames recap: comebacks, heartbreaks, and goaltending questions

Period 2: Wildcard movement and coronavirus speculation.

Period 3: If the season is cancelled, have we seen the last of some hockey greats (Chara, Marleau, Thornton)?

Episode 2-16 Who Even Knows Anymore

Welcome back listeners!

In the first period we discuss the Flames continued up and down play, Mangiapane’s emergence, and where things stand heading into the trade deadline.

In period two, we talk about deals that have already gone down and offer our takes and the anti-Canucks content you know us for.

Period 3 is focused on coaches who have been fired where the NHL coaching recyclotron will spit them out next.

Episode 2-15 The Rollercoaster

Welcome back listeners!

In the first period we discuss a series of games in which the Flames looked listless and uninspired and then a couple where they looked formidable as they did at times last year. We talk about the injury to Giordano, the forward lines, and what the outlook for the near future is.

In the second period, we talk about the injury to Fredrik Anderson in Toronto and the move to bring in Jack Campbell and Kyle Clifford from the LA Kings. The trade between Pittsburgh and Minnesota that sends Zucker to the Penguins is reviewed. We also talk about the Blue Jackets losing Norris contender Seth Jones for the foreseeable future and whether they will be able to overcome that. Finally we talk about the Darnell Nurse contract extension in Edmonton, a bit surprising being a two year deal.

In period 3 we take a very early look at the draft class of 2019. So far, the top picks Jack Hughes and Kappo Kakko have disappointed and there are not many other standouts. Will this be another 2012 draft where the top end fall way short of expectations?

Thank you so much for listening and let us know if you enjoyed the episode. Until next time!
